Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the Cross Sums app ("Cross Sums", listed on the App Store as "Kakuro & Calcudoku: Cross Sums") collects and why. Cross Sums is made by Brightwood Labs LLC ("we", "us").
The short version
- There is no account and no sign-in. We never ask for your name or email in the app.
- There are no ads, no ad networks and no third-party analytics tools.
- The app sends anonymous usage data to our own server. It uses a random ID, not your identity. You can turn it off in Settings.
- We don't sell or share your data, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
On the App Store, the privacy label for Cross Sums is "Data Not Linked to You: Usage Data (Analytics)".
Anonymous usage data
When usage data is on, the app sends these to our server:
- A random install ID. The app makes this ID on your iPhone the first time it opens. It is not linked to your Apple Account, your name, your email, or your device's advertising ID.
- The app version and the iOS version.
- Game events with the time they happened: the app opened for the first time; a puzzle was started or finished (puzzle type, difficulty, grid size and time taken); the check button was used; the unlock screen was shown (and what opened it); a purchase or restore happened.
We use this to learn which puzzles people play and finish, whether they come back, and how the unlock is doing. This helps us decide what to fix and build next.
We don't collect your name, email, contacts, location, photos, or advertising ID. Our server doesn't store your IP address or other request details. Events are sent over an encrypted connection.
Turn it off
Open Settings in the app (the gear) and turn off Share anonymous usage data. Events that were not sent yet are deleted from your iPhone, and nothing more is sent.
Where the data is kept
Usage data is stored in our own database on Cloudflare, our hosting provider. Cloudflare handles the connection to deliver it, under its own privacy policy. Nobody else gets the data.
Because the install ID is not linked to you, we can't find one person's events from a name or email. Deleting the app removes the install ID from your iPhone. A new install gets a new ID.
What stays on your iPhone
Your progress, saved puzzles, streak and settings are stored only on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes them.
Purchases
The optional Unlock All purchase is sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Apple's handling of purchase information is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Messages you send us
If you use the form on our support page, we receive the email address and message you enter. We use them only to reply. We keep them in our email inbox and delete them if you ask.
Children
Cross Sums is not directed at children under 13. The app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
This website
This site has no cookies, analytics or trackers. Cloudflare, our hosting provider, processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
Changes to this policy
